A man driving under the influence of alcohol crashed into a parked police patrol vehicle early Sunday morning, 14 July 2025, in Nonthaburi’s Bang Bua Thong district, injuring himself and a police officer. Authorities confirmed the driver’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 a.m. outside a convenience store opposite Soi Wat Lat Pla Duk along inbound Kanchanaphisek Road in the Bang Rak Phatthana subdistrict. Police had temporarily parked their patrol vehicle with flashing lights activated while conducting a routine roadside check. One officer had stepped out to sign a logbook at a checkpoint when the crash occurred.
According to the police report, the black Toyota Altis was driven by a 36-year-old man identified only as Mr Korn (alias), who collided with the rear of the stationary patrol truck. The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles. Police Lance Corporal Krisanath Komonworathat, 35, who was behind the wheel of the patrol vehicle, suffered a back injury. The driver, Mr Korn, reportedly experienced chest pain.
Emergency responders from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation arrived at the scene and transported both injured individuals to Bang Bua Thong Hospital for treatment. A breathalyser test administered to Mr Korn showed an alcohol concentration of 181 milligrammes percent—well over Thailand’s legal driving limit.
Police Lance Corporal Krisanath recounted that he and his superior, Police Sub-Lieutenant Yongyut Fakcharoen, were conducting a standard patrol operation. The collision took place just five minutes after Pol Sub-Lt Yongyut exited the vehicle to sign a checkpoint logbook.
Authorities have taken Mr Korn in for further medical examination. Legal proceedings are expected to follow, with charges likely to include driving under the influence of alcohol.
