Cambodian beauty queen stripped of Miss Grand title

Bangkok, Thailand – August 4, 2025 — The Miss Grand International organization has revoked the title and entitlements of Cambodian beauty queen Pich Votey Saravody, citing a breach of its ethical standards after she made public remarks deemed damaging to the pageant’s reputation.

According to a statement released on August 3, Saravody, who placed as 5th runner-up in the Miss Grand International 2022 competition, allegedly disseminated false and defamatory content about the organization through social media platforms. Her statements reportedly expressed support for Cambodia amid ongoing tensions at the Thai-Cambodian border, raising concerns for the pageant’s image.

The Thai-owned franchise, headquartered in Bangkok, stated that Saravody’s actions violated its code of ethics and undermined the values the competition claims to uphold. The organization emphasized that the decision to revoke her title was made without prior notice, asserting its right to do so in accordance with internal policy.

As of the announcement, Saravody is no longer authorized to use or associate herself with the Miss Grand International title. She has been directed to remove all digital content referencing her former position — including photos and videos featuring the crown, sash, logo, or any link to other contestants — within 48 hours.

In response, Saravody published a post on Facebook criticizing the organization’s actions. She described the move as discriminatory and contrasted it with what she considers the core purpose of pageantry: to empower, uplift, and unite.

The Miss Grand International pageant has previously promoted itself as a platform that promotes peace and diplomacy, making the revocation especially notable amid heightened regional sensitivities.
