On April 4, 2024, the Mueang Prachuap District Office courtyard became a vibrant showcase of unity and creativity among women from the Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan District. This gathering, held in honor of International Women’s Day, was marked by a special event themed “Thai cloth is fun to wear.” Deputy Governor of Prachuap Province, Mr. Khomkrit Charoenpattanasombat, led the opening ceremony, which was attended by notable local figures and community members.
The event celebrated the contributions of women to society and promoted the wearing of Thai cloth, reflecting a blend of tradition and contemporary fashion. Twelve women from six sub-districts received certificates of honor for their significant societal contributions. The highlight was a fashion walk featuring Thai textiles, illustrating the event’s theme and showcasing the rich tapestry of Thai cultural heritage.
The International Women’s Day celebration in Mueang Prachuap was a collaborative effort by the district’s Community Development Office and Women’s Development Committee. It aimed to foster a sense of community among women from various localities, reinforcing their role in nurturing social and economic stability.
This year’s theme, endorsed by the United Nations, encouraged the embrace of Thai textile traditions, aligning with the cultural preservation efforts championed by members of the Thai royal family, including Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. The event underscored the ongoing commitment to sustaining and promoting the legacy of Thai weaving arts, in line with the vision of Queen Sirikit.
Dignitaries such as Mr. Damrong Makrachan, Mr. Sarawut Lim-arunrak, Mrs. Kritsana Phaisaengchan, Mr. Prasut Hombuntherng, and Mrs. Sukon Sukanukroh, among others, attended the celebration, demonstrating the collective effort to honor and empower women across the district.
