Tragic Crane Collapse Claims Seven Lives in Rayong

Following a devastating crane collapse at a construction site in Rayong’s Pluak Daeng district, seven lives were tragically lost, with six migrant workers from Myanmar and one Chinese national among the deceased. The incident occurred yesterday, sparking negotiations between workers and authorities.

After the crane collapsed, survivors, predominantly from Myanmar, barricaded the site, demanding compensation for the victims’ families before allowing access to emergency crews. Negotiations ensued between police, worker representatives, and the construction firm. Eventually, an agreement was reached, providing Bt1.6 million in compensation per fatality, with immediate payment of Bt500,000 and the remainder dispersed over three months.

One survivor recounted the severity of the accident, highlighting previous safety concerns at the site. The bodies of the deceased were transported to the Rayong police station for identification, while investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing.
