Fast Eating Drama Unfolds: Prachuap City’s Deputy Mayor Responds
In a whirlwind of events surrounding the recent fast-eating competition at the “Battle Remembrance” event in Hua Ban Community Cultural Road, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan District, tensions escalated as a popular TikTok personality, known as Khun Koi from the channel “Jae Koi Soi Laek,” shared a clip of the competition on February 28, 2024. The incident quickly became a viral sensation, prompting a storm of online opinions and criticisms.
The drama unfolded when Khun Koi, eager to showcase her prowess in devouring Japanese cuisine swiftly, participated in the competition. The rules, as explained by the Deputy Mayor of Prachuap Khiri Khan City, Mrs. Wanna Srijulangkul, emphasized a scoring system where 70 points were allotted for the speed of eating and 30 points for the style of consuming Japanese food. However, the subsequent turn of events left participants and viewers puzzled.
Khun Koi, in an interview with reporters, revealed her diligent preparation for the competition, having competed in various provinces to establish a robust profile. Despite being the first to finish the fast-eating challenge within an impressive four minutes, the 1st prize surprisingly went to the 2nd place contestant, who consumed the Japanese delicacies in 10 minutes, citing a lack of style.
Expressing her dissatisfaction, Khun Koi narrated the subsequent communication with the event organizers, disclosing the director’s disapproval and threats of legal action for posting competition clips. In response, she raised concerns about the disparity between the cost of participation and the prize money, expressing a desire for acknowledgment of her efforts and an explanation.
The controversy deepened when Khun Koi suggested that the 1st place contestant, believed to be an organizer, was awarded unfairly. Observing their presence at the event beforehand and donning a yukata akin to event officials, suspicions arose, demanding a transparent clarification and an apology.
Amidst the online uproar, Deputy Mayor Wanna Srijulangkul clarified the city’s position, asserting that the Japanese Food Eating Competition was introduced to infuse color and excitement into the “Remembering the Battle” event, now in its second iteration. She defended the competition’s transparency, pointing to clearly outlined rules, a panel of non-municipal judges, and prize distribution.
Mrs. Srijulangkul questioned the delayed protests from participants and the absence of objections during or after the competition, raising doubts about the sudden emergence of dramatic news. Dismissing notions of impending lawsuits, she assured the public that these were mere statements from an inquiring official.
In conclusion, the administrators of Prachuap Khiri Khan Municipality expressed a willingness to extend an invitation to Jae Koi Soi Laek for the 2025 event, aiming to clear any lingering doubts and showcase the city’s commitment to fair and entertaining competitions.
