Hua Hin Officials Preserve Traditional Games at Songkran Festival

As part of the recent Songkran Festival celebrations, the Mayor of Hua Hin, Mr. Nopporn Wuthikul, and other government officials participated in traditional Thai children’s games and local community games. These included Ri Ri Khaosan, snake eats the tail, and banana stem horse, all of which are popular traditional games played by Thai children.

The event was held at Hua Hin Beach and was organized by the Magical Hua Hin Learning Center, which showcased a demonstration of various folk games that have received a lot of attention from tourists. These games are part of the Hua Hin people’s cultural heritage and have been preserved to keep them alive.

In addition to the traditional children’s games, the community also played local games such as Tug of War, Luk Chuang, Mae Khuang, Hum Jep, Mae Sri, Fox and Ghost Jump Tai. These games were played by government officials and staff who joined the locals in celebrating the Songkran Festival.

The ghost jumping game, in particular, drew much attention as players jump over each other in a line while chanting and singing. The game is played on the beach of Hua Hin and ends in front of Phon King Phet Public Park.

The preservation and continuation of these traditional games are significant, as they showcase the cultural heritage of the Hua Hin people. By playing these games during festivals and events, they are kept alive and passed on to future generations.
