Plans to greatly increase internet coverage over the entirety of Thailand have been made public by the Thai government. On the 8th of April, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan presided over a meeting of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission (ONDE). During this meeting, the government revealed its plan to give internet access to 24,654 communities located around Thailand. The plan will concentrate on local communities, schools, and hospitals in an effort to enhance the standard of living of the general population during the course of its three-year duration.
Throughout the course of the meeting, the ONDE provided attendees with up-to-date information regarding the standing of the Digital Economy and Society Development Fund, as well as the operation of the committees and working groups affiliated with the fund. The human resource management system, as well as risk management and information management, were also topics of conversation during this time.
The Community Internet Service project was identified as one of the most important initiatives that needed to be considered and authorized. The expansion of high-speed internet access across Thailand is one of the goals of this project, along with the provision of public internet services and the maintenance of community internet networks. As part of the initiative, 24,654 community locations will be provided with high-speed Wi-Fi services, and the network will be expanded to include public venues such as schools, hospitals, and other public spaces in order to assist low-income earners and members of local communities. It is anticipated that the project will be finished within the next three years.
Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, underlined the significance of planning for fundamental technological trends and driving change through the process of adjusting to changing conditions and making possibilities available for ongoing participation. In addition to this, he emphasized that every initiative ought to be evaluated and screened on the basis of the requirements of the people, with the intention of broadening people’s access to opportunities and narrowing the gap between those who have it and those who do not. The end goal is to boost people’s quality of life and increase the number of options available to them in today’s digital age.
