Thailand is getting ready to submit Udon Thani’s Phu Phra Bat Historical Park for UNESCO World Heritage Site consideration because of the park’s cultural value. The government anticipates an increase in both tourism and revenue as a result of the World Heritage classification.
To boost national pride, tourism, and economic growth, the Thailand National Committee on the World Heritage Convention is planning to submit the historical park as the country’s newest World Heritage Site.
Officials such as Natural Resources and Environment Minister Varawut Silpa-archa and Culture Minister Itthiphol Kunplome attended a meeting of the National Committee on the World Heritage Convention presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan and accepted the nomination request.
In recognition of its historical significance and its status as the spiritual center of the Sema people, Phu Phra Bat Historical Park has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the stones at the site are engraved in the shape of Bai Sema, a holy boundary stone commonly seen surrounding Buddhist temples, and there are also old ruins on the property.
After the National Committee on the World Heritage Convention makes a decision, the Cabinet will be presented with a proposal to change the related documents.
