Official daily COVID-19 infection figures have been on the decline, with 33 provinces having been recognized for being able to keep outbreaks under control.
The Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) indicated new infection figures have been declining globally. CCSA spokesperson Taweesilp Visanuyothin said the number of Covid deaths has similarly been on the decline across the world.
Dr. Taweesilp said statistics indicate that members of the ‘608 group’ made up most of the patients who lost their lives to Covid. The 608 group comprises elderly persons, individuals with a chronic illness, and pregnant women. Dr. Taweesilp said this is especially true with elderly persons who are unvaccinated or only partially vaccinated.
The spokesman commended 33 provinces for having brought down the severity of outbreaks and asked the provincial authorities to try and maintain current figures. Meanwhile, there are 44 provinces where daily infection numbers were still fluctuating. Among these were Bangkok, Nonthatburi, Kalasin, Kanchanaburi, Chaiyaphum, Samut Prakan, Nakhon Pathom, and Nong Khai. Dr. Taweesilp said the CCSA director commends efforts by the Thai public in wearing face masks in public areas and malls.
The spokesman noted there is a tendency for an increase in the number of patients needing ventilators, despite the number of infections being lower than expected. He said almost 5 million pills of the favipiravir and 6.7 million pills of the molnupiravir antivirals remain and these are enough for patients.
