The National Water Resources Board (ONWR) recently hosted a symposium with the Ministry of Environment of South Korea, the Asian Water Council and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to discuss and brainstorm on current water management plans in Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwon, who led the symposium, said the exercise provided an excellent opportunity for all delegations to exchange views and policy suggestions proposed by the OECD, as Thailand is paying close attention to sustainable and sound water resources management.
Gen Prawit emphasized that an effective water resources management program requires the cooperation of all sectors, both within and outside the country.
For ONWR Secretary General Surasi Kittimonthon, the seminar provided a forum for representatives and specialists from relevant departments to exchange views and expertise on water resources management strategies in the UNECE area, within the framework of the five-year water partnership initiative 2020-2024.
The OECD’s Principal Administrator, Xavier Henri Joseph, gave a presentation on the project’s progress and how the OECD will pilot its work in a variety of areas, including water financing, sanitation, water-intensive industries, water valuation, and water sharing support schemes.
