Suvarnabhumi Airport reports increase in passenger traffic

The number of tourists arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport soared in the three days following the lifting of the Thailand Pass on Friday, July 1.

According to Mr. Traisulee Traisaranakul, deputy government spokesman, Suvarnabhumi welcomed 140 flights and 27,642 passengers on Friday. The tendency was confirmed on Saturday with 134 flights with 27 147 passengers on board 150 flights to finish with 28 910 passengers on Sunday.

These traffic levels represent an increase over June, which saw an average of 130 daily landings carrying between 23,000 and 24,000 passengers.

The spokesman said the increase was in line with an estimate by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports that daily foreign arrivals would soon exceed 30,000, with that figure expected to double by October.

Meanwhile, the Thai government is set to launch the “Thailand Moving Together” campaign at Suvarnabhumi Airport to demonstrate that the country is ready for the return of tourists. The event, which will be chaired by Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health, is organized with the Ministries of Public Health, Transport, Tourism and Sports.

This meeting will be the first official engagement of Minister Anutin since his recent trip to Europe.
