On June 6, Mr. Polkrit Phuangvalaisin, Hua Hin District Chief revealed that the “Pala-U” durian trees are “Monthong” durian varieties donated by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the opening of the Anan School in Ban Pala-U.
This fruit has been planted in the La-U region due to the special climate of the highlands and the fertility of the soil. It is also grown organically, which results in quality durian fruit with a sweet taste, thick, sticky, smooth, delicate, pale yellow texture, small crumbs and a sweet smell. It is a landmark product of the community that adds value to agricultural products. Those who have the right to use the GI mark are the farmers who produce in the area as co-owners and who together maintain this quality, reputation and local identity.
For “Pala-U durian”, production of products for the market will start from June to August. Currently, some Pala-U durians are available for sale. At the same time, Hua Hin District, in collaboration with Huai Sat Yai Sub-district Administrative Organization, is preparing to hold an event called “Fruit and Pala-U Goods Festival” from July 9 to 17 in Huai Sat Yai Sub-district, in order to increase the distribution channel of durian directly to the consumers and to promote agri-tourism in the area. This will generate income for the community. La-U durians are sold at a price of only 250 baht per kilogram, while emphasizing that farmers cut quality durians for sale. In addition, tourists will be able to taste durian from the forest directly from the garden. There are also important tourist attractions such as the Pa La-U waterfall that visitors can visit all year round.
