Crocodile Crossing: Rare Sighting in Nakhon Sawan’s Bung Boraphet

On March 7, 2567, a recent discovery of newly born freshwater crocodiles in the prohibited wildlife hunting area of Bung Boraphet, Nakhon Sawan Province, reflects the ecological richness of the region. This occurrence, the first in seven years, highlights the flourishing ecosystem that supports the growth of both flora and fauna.

In a recent development, the 12th Conservation Area Management Office in Nakhon Sawan shared a video clip posted by a local Facebook user known as “Uncle Pom, the Water Bird.” The footage captures a moment when a crocodile emerged from Bung Boraphet and confidently crossed a road, heading towards a water pond.

The video, shot by a resident familiar with such encounters, has garnered significant attention online. Viewers are drawn to the serene sight of the crocodile casually strolling across the road, dispelling fears by wildlife officials who assure the public of the creature’s non-aggressive nature.

The 12th Conservation Area Management Office, under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation, has released the clip to raise awareness about the peaceful coexistence with these reptiles. While many find the video captivating, there is a prevalent concern among viewers about potential risks when visiting Bung Boraphet. To address these concerns, Mr. Phedet Laithong, the director of the Wildlife Conservation Office, reassures the public that these crocodiles in Bung Boraphet have not been known to harm anyone. Importantly, these crocodiles exhibit a natural fear of humans, ensuring safety for those who visit the area.

In an interview on March 7, Mr. Phedet Laithong highlighted that the vicinity is considered a common route for crocodiles, emphasizing that these particular creatures in Bung Boraphet have not exhibited aggressive behavior. He advises visitors not to fear harm while exploring the area, as these crocodiles, if undisturbed, will continue their peaceful coexistence with the local environment.

As of the latest update, Bung Boraphet is currently home to approximately 35 freshwater crocodiles, a testament to the thriving ecosystem of this protected habitat. The rare sighting of these creatures provides a unique opportunity for locals and tourists to appreciate the wonders of nature while ensuring a respectful and safe distance from the wildlife.
