As the number of daily COVID-19 infections increases in various regions of the world, Thailand is also seeing an increase in COVID hospital admissions. In the past week, about 5,000 COVID patients were admitted, causing immunization facilities to extend their service hours.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 4,914 hospitalizations with COVID-19 between November 20 and November 26. 553 of these patients developed pneumonia, 319 needed intubation, and 74 died. The numbers continued to increase from the previous week.
Among the 533 patients with pneumonia, 126 were not COVID-19-vaccinated. Thirteen individuals received only one dosage of the vaccination, whereas 109 received two doses. The most recent booster injection was administered to 68 individuals more than three months ago. Three individuals who were afflicted within three months received a booster injection. Nearly majority of the 74 fatalities were related to members of the “608 Group” who were at increased risk for developing severe COVID symptoms. 38 of the dead had not been immunized.
Recently, more individuals have indicated interest in obtaining the COVID vaccination. On Wednesday, November 30, the immunization center at the Ministry of Public Health in Nonthaburi will be open an additional day. It will provide service on the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th of December. Visitation hours are from 9 am to 2 pm. The only vaccination available is the Pfizer vaccine. Minimum age for recipients is 12 years old.
Monday through Friday, barring public holidays, the Institute of Dermatology at the Victory Monument in Bangkok is now giving COVID immunizations. Additionally, it will operate on December 17. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. People whose previous COVID vaccination was administered more than four months ago are asked to receive a booster. Everyone is invited to obtain the complimentary service. Recipients of vaccination must be at least 5 years old.
In the meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Health has indicated it would not cancel New Year’s celebrations because to the rising number of COVID hospital admissions. Messages claiming otherwise have been circulated, and their falsity has been proven. The ministry of health is now monitoring all COVID variations and subvariants, but has not advocated canceling New Year’s celebrations.
