Army intensifies border patrols to combat drug smuggling

The Royal Thai Army reported that it has collected more than 200 million methamphetamine pills along the border this year, indicating that the eradication of illicit substances is a national priority.

The Royal Thai Army has revealed the results of its cooperative effort with related agencies to stifle drug trafficking at border areas, which have so far this year resulted in 1,500 arrests.

To stop the importation of illegal substances into Thailand, military dogs, police officers, and administrative staff are all involved in the anti-drug operation. Modern equipment is also used.

In addition to 3,500 kg of crystal meth, the army claims that its border police have seized some 230 million meth pills.

This year’s seizures are five times as many as those from last year, when 53 million meth pills and 1,000 kilograms of crystal meth were discovered.
