Deputy Government Secretary Traisuree Taisaranakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul, along with delegates from various offices, presented Thailand’s proposal to host the World Specialized Expo 2028 to the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) in Paris on Sunday June 19. The delegation submitted Thailand’s application letter to host the event to the BIE on January 7.
Mr. Traisuree Taisaranakul said that Phuket province has been designated as a suitable location for the expo, as Thailand intends to promote the island province as well as the country as a world-class medical tourism destination.
Thai delegates will compete with representatives from Argentina, Serbia, Spain and the United States to host the international event, with the winner to be announced in June 2024.
The specialized World Expo will be held from March 20 to June 17, 2028. If Thailand wins, it should bring nearly 5 million domestic and international visitors to the country, and thus boost the kingdom’s much-needed economy and tourism industry.
