Prachuap province is organizing the durian festival “Tanao Sri Khiri Khan”, showcasing the outstanding characteristics of durians in 8 districts

On June 14, Mr. Wanchai Nilwong, Agricultural Director of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, revealed that currently, durian production in Prachuap Province has started to yield products. More than 14,700 rai of durian plantation area, yielding about 8,000 rai or more than 7,100 tons, most of them are Mon Thong varieties and some other varieties such as gibbons, Kanyao, Phuangmane. Durian is another famous agricultural product of the province and is grown in all 8 districts. 

Program for 2022 durian year: event in the months of June – July under the concept of Tanao Sri Khiri Khan durian. It aims to compose stories of agricultural products with exceptional identity in line with the geography and climate resulting in durian yields with unique characteristics, dry, smooth texture, wilted seeds, sweet and mellow taste, such as Pala-U durian, grown in Huai Sat Yai Subdistrict, Hua Hin and is a product of geographical indication. There is also a variety of durian that has been certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, the latest being the Durian Thong Bang Saphan which is planted in the Bang Saphan District area. 

Durian events is organized this year, namely, Chairaj Durian Fair from June 23 to 25 at the administrative organization of Chairat sub-district, Bang Saphan Noi district, selling price 100-120 baht/kg, Khao Jao Durian Fair on June 29. July 3 at Pranburi district office, selling price 190-250 baht/kg. Tanao Sri Khiri Khan Durian Fair from July 1 to 5 at Market Village Hua Hin. Durian is sold from various sources in Prachuap province, such as Pala-U Durian Khao Jao Durian Khao Lan Durian Chairat Durian (only on the opening day Availability of durian in Haad Kham Khlong Bueng Durian) Pala-U Durian Fair from July 9 to 17 at Huai Sat Yai sub-district administrative organization, current selling price, wholesale price 170-200 baht/kg, retail price 250-350 baht/kg. Organizing Khlong Loi durian competition on July 10 in the courtyard of Wat Khao Bot Kamnop Noppakhun Sub-district, Bang Saphan District, selling price 150 baht/kg, thus inviting people and tourists to join the event.

Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Agriculture Office said it encourages the increase of efficiency and improvement of durian production of Tanao Sri Khiri Khan in all aspects in the form of large plots, community enterprise and farmers’ groups. In terms of increasing the standard of durian products, there is a promotion with the improvement of the efficiency of durian production. Currently, there are 390 durian growers certified to GAP standards, covering an area of over 2,500 rai.
