Long boat race at Khao Tao Lake, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province.
This is an absolute must-see event: 55 long boats will compete.
Long boat racing has always been one of Thailand’s signature sports: festivals, held annually during the Thai Buddhist Lent period which is around September and October since the river’s tide is highest. The purpose is to display the bond between local Thais and the river and to show the morale, courage, and strength of the rowing crew. It has been held since the old Thai era (approx. 600 years ago.)
