Officials plan eviction response in Ao Bo Thong Lang case

On June 23, 2025, authorities in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province convened to address legal enforcement following a court order to dismantle unauthorized housing in the Ao Bo Thong Lang pine forest area, located in Mae Ramphueng Subdistrict, Bang Saphan District.

The meeting, led by Deputy Governor Sinat O-iem, aimed to determine how agencies can comply with the court’s decision and assist affected residents.

The Marine Department had earlier filed a complaint regarding illegal settlements within its jurisdiction, prompting a court order in 2023 requiring the demolition of structures built in the protected forest area. Current data indicates 35 households were impacted, with 18 families still remaining on the land due to limited relocation options and lack of resources for resettlement.

To ease the relocation process, discussions are ongoing about designating public land for housing in two nearby areas—Ban Tha Kham and Ban Tha Manao. A request for use of this land is under review by the Royal Forest Department. Coordination with the Mae Ramphueng Subdistrict Administrative Organization is ongoing to facilitate this process.

Fieldwork has been undertaken by relevant agencies, including the Community Organization Development Institute and the Central and Western Regions Office. Officials previously met with residents of Ban Pa Son to gather firsthand accounts of their situation. Further outreach is planned to explore long-term solutions such as land allocation, housing support, and welfare assistance.

The initiative underscores a cooperative effort among government entities and local stakeholders to resolve the conflict in a manner that balances legal obligations with the livelihood concerns of affected communities. Representatives from regional offices and community organizations participated in the meeting.
