Training Launched to Tackle Drug Problems in Communities

On March 22, 2025, a new training program was launched in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province aimed at equipping local personnel with the skills and knowledge to manage community-based efforts to combat drug problems sustainably. The initiative marks the first session under the 2025 fiscal year’s plan to strengthen grassroots capacity in preventing and addressing narcotics issues.

Held at the Samarnmitr Training Center in Mueang District, the program spans four days and is intended to develop the ability of local officials and community leaders to manage anti-drug efforts at the village and sub-district levels. A total of 120 participants—60 each from Mueang Prachuap and Thap Sakae districts—are attending the first of four planned training sessions. Attendees include subdistrict officials, health workers, local administrative officers, village security teams, and community volunteers.

The initiative, supported by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (Region 7), is organized by the Association of Village and Subdistrict Headmen of Prachuap Khiri Khan. The program aims to improve participants’ understanding of their roles and responsibilities, develop skills in community management, and encourage positive attitudes toward collective action. Participants are also trained to recognize signs of drug involvement in their communities and apply appropriate legal or rehabilitative responses.

According to Somsamai Pantong, the association’s president, the drug issue continues to pose a significant threat to national security, economic stability, and social wellbeing. He emphasized the need for long-term solutions based on strong community engagement and management.

Provincial Governor Sitthichai Sawatsan highlighted that eliminating drug threats requires both enforcement and prevention. He stressed that community-level engagement is key to sustainable solutions, including strengthening protective barriers within villages and ensuring individuals with drug problems are directed toward rehabilitation, while traffickers are subject to legal action.

The opening ceremony was attended by regional officials, including Deputy Governors Kittiphong Sukphakhun and Sinat Oaiam, district chiefs, and law enforcement. Guest speakers from across the country, including experts in drug prevention and community leadership, also contributed to the training program.
