Phetchaburi Hosts PLAWEAN Challenge 2025 to Boost Tourism

Phetchaburi Province launched the PLAWEAN Challenge Phetchaburi River 2025 on March 16, aiming to promote water tourism and stimulate the local economy. Held at the rubber boat pier in front of Kaeng Krachan Dam, the event was part of the 32nd Tha Yang Agriculture and Good Products Fair, drawing both Thai and international participants. Ten teams competed in the event, highlighting Phetchaburi’s potential as a health and eco-tourism destination.

The competition, featuring kayaking on the Phetchaburi River, showcased the province’s natural beauty and its historical significance. The river, originating from the World Heritage Forest, flows uniquely from south to north, cutting through forests and communities before reaching the Gulf of Thailand. Organizers emphasized that beyond the race itself, the event aimed to encourage sustainable tourism and strengthen community ties.

The event was held in collaboration with local administrative organizations and the village headmen’s club. Phetchaburi Deputy Governor Pholkrit Phuangwalaisin presided over the opening ceremony, underscoring the province’s goal of making kayaking a key attraction alongside its many camping sites.
