Cobra Gold 2025 Amphibious Exercise Held in Thailand

The Royal Thai Navy conducted an amphibious operations exercise as part of Cobra Gold 2025 on March 3 at Naval Training Ground No. 15 in Sattahip, Chonburi Province. The drill, involving forces from Thailand, the United States, South Korea, and Singapore, focused on seizing a beachhead and securing an area for further military operations.

The exercise began with naval bombardments and air support to weaken simulated enemy defenses before amphibious forces launched an assault to establish and hold the beachhead. This phase was crucial for ensuring the safe landing of additional troops and equipment to support further military operations, including the evacuation of civilians from conflict zones.

Thailand’s contribution included the HTMS Angthong, HTMS Thonglang, and HTMS Wangnai, along with amphibious assault vehicles, armored vehicles, helicopters, and F-16 fighter jets. The U.S. forces deployed the USS Omaha, MH-60R helicopters, P-8 Poseidon aircraft, UH-60 Blackhawk and AH-64 Apache helicopters, and F-16 fighter jets. South Korea participated with landing craft, AAVs, and a K-55 tank, while Singapore contributed warships, amphibious vehicles, tanks, and aircraft.

The exercise aimed to enhance combat readiness, develop military capabilities, and strengthen cooperation between allied nations. The event was observed by Admiral Chirapol Wongwit, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, alongside military officials from Thailand, the U.S., South Korea, and Singapore.
