Local authorities in Hua Hin are investigating vandalism at the Shrine of Lord Somboon and Lady Thapthim near Hua Hin Beach, where a statue of a man fighting a shark was damaged. The incident involved the destruction of the shark’s teeth and the placement of eye stickers inside its mouth.
Boonkerd Atthanisakon, President of the Sawang Hua Hin Thammasathan Foundation and caretaker of the shrine, reported the damage, prompting Hua Hin Municipality to coordinate with the Hua Hin Provincial Police. An individual known for drawing eye symbols around the city admitted to placing the stickers but denied responsibility for the broken teeth. The case has now been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Municipal authorities have instructed the Legal Contracts Division to inspect public areas and pursue legal action against those responsible. They emphasized that the statue is an important symbol of Hua Hin, and such acts of vandalism are deeply inappropriate, impacting both the city’s cultural heritage and its residents.
