Construction of Purple Line South Reaches 49.51%, Opening Delayed to 2029

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) announced on January 10, 2025, that construction of the Purple Line South extension, running from Tao Poon to Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road), has reached 49.51% completion as of the end of January. The project, which spans 23.6 kilometers, includes 13.6 kilometers of underground tracks with 10 underground stations and 10 kilometers of elevated tracks with seven elevated stations.

The scheduled opening has been postponed from 2028 to 2029, pending a decision from the MRTA board regarding the train operation model connecting it with the Purple Line North. The project also requires approvals from the Ministry of Transport and the Cabinet. Additionally, train production for the line is expected to take approximately three years.

Officials from the MRTA emphasized that progress is in line with overall plans, though final decisions on operational details are still under review.
