Hua Hin Launches STD and HIV Prevention Program for Students

Sexually transmitted diseases and HIV remain a growing concern in Hua Hin, prompting local authorities to launch an awareness and prevention initiative. On February 6, 2025, Hua Hin Municipality hosted the Sexually Transmitted Disease and AIDS Prevention and Control Project at the Naresdamri Room, aiming to educate young people on risks and protective measures. The program targeted 500 secondary school students from municipal schools, focusing on disease prevention and responsible sexual behavior.

Officials highlighted rising cases in the district, particularly among males aged 15-24. Current data indicates 63 individuals are undergoing treatment for HIV at Hua Hin Hospital, with a cumulative infection rate of 29%. Additionally, high rates of syphilis and gonorrhea have been reported. Authorities attributed these trends to increased exposure to online pornography, dating apps, and casual sexual encounters.

To address these concerns, experts from Hua Hin Hospital delivered educational sessions on sexually transmitted infections (STIs), prevention strategies, and safe relationship practices. The initiative aimed to equip students with essential knowledge while promoting responsible decision-making.

The event was presided over by Hua Hin Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul, with participation from municipal officials, healthcare professionals, and representatives from local schools and public health units.
