Governor Visits Local Fisheries, Supports Crab Release Initiative

The Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sitthichai Sawatsan, visited Pak Nam Pran, a coastal community in Pranburi District, on February 5, 2025, to meet with local fisheries and discuss pressing concerns. The visit also included participation in a crab release program, aimed at preserving marine resources and promoting sustainable fishing practices.

During discussions with local fisheries groups and community representatives, several key issues were raised. These included a request for land from the Treasury Department to develop a parking area and pier for local fishermen, as well as for tourism purposes. Concerns were also voiced about high rental fees for state-owned land, with a plea for reductions to ease the financial burden on local fishermen. Additionally, community members proposed creating a certified network of local guides and motorcycle sidecar drivers to support tourism while ensuring compliance with regulations.

The governor acknowledged these concerns and committed to reviewing them with relevant authorities. The deputy governor suggested studying tourism development models from Pha Daeng as a potential framework for Pak Nam Pran’s future initiatives.

Following these discussions, the governor and his delegation participated in a crab release event organized by the local fisheries cooperative. The initiative, running for over 11 years, involves releasing fertilized female crabs back into the sea to support marine biodiversity. On this occasion, 5,000 crabs were released, contributing to the sustainability of local fisheries and reinforcing responsible fishing practices.

The event was attended by senior provincial officials, Pranburi’s district chief, and representatives from various government agencies.
