On January 24, 2025, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province hosted a commemorative event for the 56th anniversary of the Volunteer Community Leaders Program (VCLP). The gathering took place at King Mongkut Memorial Park of Science and Technology at Wa Ko, Klong Wan Subdistrict. The program, initiated in 1969 by the Department of Community Development, seeks to encourage volunteerism and leadership for sustainable community growth.
The day’s activities began at 9:30 a.m. in the Nualchan Conference Room. Mr. Preeda Sukjai, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan, presided over the event, which focused on mobilizing community volunteers to uphold their commitment to the monarchy and advance local development. A message from the Minister of Interior was read, celebrating the program’s enduring impact over five decades.
Highlights included the presentation of certificates to exemplary volunteers and community leaders for their outstanding work in 2024. Participants also toured the park’s aquarium, gaining insights into marine conservation, and later joined a collaborative farming activity, planting climbing wattle and pumpkins to promote food security at the park’s sustainable agriculture area.
Since its inception, the VCLP has engaged citizens with a passion for service, positioning them as key connectors between community organizations and development partners. This year, the program emphasizes poverty reduction through the practical application of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy under the theme, “Volunteers Unite to Eradicate Poverty and Sustainably Develop Communities.”
Prominent attendees included local officials, representatives from development agencies, and key community leaders who expressed their commitment to advancing the program’s goals for 2025 and beyond.
