On January 23, 2025, Hua Hin will make history as 23 LGBTQIAN+ couples officially register their marriages, marking a significant milestone in Thailand’s journey toward marriage equality. The registration, held at the Hua Hin Convention Center, is part of the “Hua Hin Grand Inter Pride 2025” event, organized by a coalition of local government bodies and private organizations, including Hua Hin Municipality, Bluport Hua Hin, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). This celebration reflects Thailand’s recent legal advancements, making it the first country in Southeast Asia and the third in Asia to officially recognize same-sex marriage.
In an effort to create an inclusive and vibrant atmosphere for both locals and tourists, Hua Hin Municipality has embraced the event with visible displays of support. Along Phetkasem Road, rainbow flags flutter, and large, colorful “PRIDE” letters have been installed in front of the Hua Hin Municipality Office. These symbolic gestures highlight the city’s commitment to equality and welcome visitors from diverse backgrounds.
As part of its ongoing support for LGBTQIAN+ rights, the municipality plans to host additional celebration activities throughout Pride Month in June 2025. With a budget of 1 million baht, the events will be coordinated with both public and private sectors to further promote Hua Hin as a progressive and inclusive tourist destination. This initiative aims to attract a wider range of LGBTQIAN+ tourists while enhancing the city’s reputation as a welcoming haven for all.
“We congratulate the 23 couples who will register their marriages on this historic day. This is a moment that will be remembered by all for the rest of their lives,” said Mr. Nopporn Wuttikul, Mayor of Hua Hin. The event marks an important step in advancing gender equality and recognizing the rights of all individuals in Thailand.
