On October 28, 2024, at around 5:00 p.m., Thung Chai Police Station in Bang Saphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, received an unusual report. Ms. Pimthinita, 54, a resident of Ban Pracharat, alerted authorities after encountering a strong odor resembling that of a decomposing body in a pineapple forest near Village No. 3, Ban Krut.
Pol. Lt. Col. Kitti Sangthong, accompanied by local officials, responded to the call. Village Headman Ms. Thipawan Siriphong, her assistant Mr. Tawanchai Yingyong, and Sawang Rat Satthatham Sathan Foundation officers joined the search. Ban Krut Municipality provided a JCB excavator to assist, with Mr. Phacharadanai Wacharothai, Director of the Engineering Division, and Ms. Wanee Sangfuang, Deputy Mayor of Ban Krut, overseeing the inspection.
The search area, a former resort abandoned over 22 years ago, was near shelters used by pineapple farmers. Authorities were struck by a pungent odor upon arrival, prompting them to dig around a large rock where locals reported the smell.
Mrs. Boonruen, 62, a pineapple farmer in the area, shared a backstory linked to the search site. She recalled how her mother, Mrs. Mien Pho Thong, 85, who once watched over the land, recounted a dream in which a man and woman pleaded for help, pointing to a large rock near their hut. However, no action was taken as the odor eventually dissipated.
Despite using both heavy equipment and manual tools, authorities were unable to locate the source of the smell before nightfall. The search is set to resume the next day, with hopes of uncovering further clues.
