In a strategic move to boost Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has been actively working towards attracting foreign investment into the region. Recently, Prime Minister Srettha embarked on a noteworthy journey, taking a train trip from Hua Lamphong Station to Laem Chabang, using the travel time as an opportunity to strategize with relevant government agencies.
This significant event took place at 9:15 a.m. as he rode on the special train 995 departing from Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) to Laem Chabang Railway Station in Thung Sukhla Subdistrict, Sri Racha District, Chonburi Province. The purpose of the trip was to inspect government work in Chonburi Province and Rayong Province. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, who also serves as the Minister of Finance, received a comprehensive overview of the ongoing infrastructure development within the Eastern Special Economic Zone (EEC). This included key projects such as the high-speed rail system connecting three airports and the cargo handling capacity expansion at Laem Chabang Port.
During the train journey, the Prime Minister participated in a meeting held on board, where he was briefed on the infrastructure of the EEC region. The primary focus was addressing the issue of congestion in product delivery, a problem that has led to delays in the past. Recognizing the urgency of resolving this matter to instill confidence in foreign investors, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and relevant officials discussed strategies to rectify the situation.
Under Prime Minister Srettha’s leadership, the government has made the improvement of essential infrastructure and public utilities a top priority. This includes ensuring that services such as water supply meet international standards. Additionally, the government is actively reviewing tax measures to provide attractive incentives to potential investors, aiming to create a conducive environment for foreign businesses to thrive.
Officials anticipate that the proactive approach in preparing the EEC for significant economic activities will stimulate growth, generate employment opportunities, and solidify Thailand’s position as a key player in the global market.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin shared his insights on this journey through a Facebook post, stating, “I intend to take the train from Hua Lamphong Station to visit the Laem Chabang Port Railway Container Transport Center in Chonburi Province. The transportation system is convenient and exceptionally clean. During the journey, I held a meeting with relevant agencies to prepare for today’s visit to the EEC area. I believe that the EEC holds immense potential, and we must expedite the flow of foreign investment. The government is committed to enhancing public utility systems, implementing favorable tax measures, and other initiatives to instill confidence in potential investors.”
