On October 23, 2023, a joint operation led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phutthakun Rueangtham of the KG.2 Royal Thai Army Headquarters (Prachuap Khiri Khan) and Police Lieutenant Colonel Khomsan Wansakul, Deputy Police Sergeant of the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Battalion, Royal Thai Army Headquarters, in collaboration with highway police personnel, executed an arrest warrant for Mr. Nanthakorn, a 50-year-old resident of Hua Hin District, Prachuap Province. This operation was carried out pursuant to Hua Hin Provincial Court arrest warrant No. 155/2566, dated October 22, 2023, for the alleged attempted murder of another individual. The arrest took place as Mr. Nanthakorn attempted to evade capture while traveling on a northbound Bangkok-Ranong bus along Phetkasem Road in Nong Ta Taem Subdistrict, Pranburi District, Prachuap Province.
The stringent pursuit of suspects on the highways and the enforcement of arrest warrants in cases of old grievances were in line with the directives of Pol. Maj. Gen. Charoonkiat Pankaew, Commander-in-Chief of the Narcotics Control Police Bureau (RTA Commander-in-Chief). This proactive approach was part of their commitment to maintaining safety on the roadways and addressing various types of criminal activity within their jurisdiction.
Intelligence gathered in the lead-up to the operation had indicated that Mr. Nanthakorn faced allegations related to an attempted murder, which spurred the authorities to establish observation teams. Their diligent work led them to the bus in question, and upon making visual contact with a passenger resembling Mr. Nanthakorn, they signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection. Mr. Nanthakorn’s reaction was telling, as he visibly paled upon seeing the law enforcement officers. Interrogated on the spot, he ultimately admitted to being the individual named in the arrest warrant. Subsequently, the accused was apprehended and transported to Hua Hin Police Station, where formal legal proceedings would take place.
