In a bid to extend a helping hand to Thai laborers who have recently returned from Israel, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) has launched an investigative initiative. Spearheaded by Deputy Minister of Finance Julapun Amornvivat, the effort was formally unveiled during his visit to the northern province of Chiang Mai.
Deputy Minister Julapun revealed that the BAAC will undertake a comprehensive review of the individuals adversely affected by their experiences in Israel, with the aim of identifying suitable means of assistance. Potential forms of support under consideration encompass debt deferment and immediate livelihood aid.
Eligibility for these measures will hinge upon whether the affected individuals align with the criteria approved by the Cabinet, with the possibility of additional support being explored in exceptional cases. A comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations is anticipated to be unveiled in a fortnight.
Furthermore, in the tragic event of casualties arising from the conflicts in Israel, the prospect of debt forgiveness will be contemplated as part of the relief measures.
As of the time of this report, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reported a distressing toll of 28 Thai nationals who lost their lives during the violence that erupted along the Israel-Gaza border on October 7th.
