On September 30, 2023, tragedy struck the peaceful roads of Phetchaburi Province as a motorcycle accident unfolded, claiming the life of a dedicated police officer. Pol. Lt. Col. Thawatchai Khun-aem, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation at Cha-am Police Station, received a distressing report regarding the incident. The collision occurred on Petchkasem Road, Long Tai leg, involving a motorcycle that collided with a road sign on the island at the entrance to Bang Sai Yoi Temple in Cha-am District.
Regrettably, the accident led to the loss of a police officer’s life, prompting Pol. Lt. Col. Thawatchai Khun-aem to swiftly report the incident to Pol. Maj. Gen. Piti Narukhatiphichai, Phetchaburi Provincial Police Commander. Accompanied by Pol. Col. Somkiat Chomchai, the Chief of Cha-am police, and medical professionals from Cha-am Hospital, the investigative team, and members of the Sawangsanphetthammasathan Foundation, they rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of Police Lieutenant Rangsan Yensabai, 56 years old, a Deputy Police Inspector from Cha-am Police Station, clad in his traffic police uniform, lying amidst the tragic aftermath in the middle of the road. Nearby, a black and white Yamaha motorcycle lay overturned on the road, next to a fallen road sign.
The vehicle responsible for the collision had fled the scene, leaving authorities to grapple with unanswered questions regarding its type and identity. In response, police investigators initiated a comprehensive effort, including a meticulous review of CCTV footage along the route, in pursuit of identifying the fleeing vehicle and its driver for subsequent legal proceedings.
Additionally, investigators sought statements from witnesses who had observed the tragic event, aiming to gather crucial information for further action and a thorough understanding of the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Before allowing authorities to transport the deceased officer’s body to Cha-am Hospital, a final medical examination was conducted to ensure all necessary details were documented. The sorrow was palpable among the family of the departed officer and his colleagues, who mourned this profound loss together.
