LIANYUNGANG, Jiangsu Province, China — The Royal Thai Police received the esteemed Gold Great Wall Commemorative Award during an international conference on crime prevention held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, China. This prestigious accolade serves as a testament to the exemplary collaboration between Thailand and China in their relentless efforts to combat transnational crime.
The Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Police-General Surachate Hakparn, played a pivotal role in strengthening bilateral ties during his engaging discussions with China’s Deputy Minister of Public Security, Zhou Ganlu.
The core focus of these high-level talks revolved around the recently approved “visa-free” policy designed to facilitate Chinese tourists’ travel to Thailand. Under this policy, advanced technologies will be harnessed to ensure the safety and security of tourists, particularly in major urban centers where the policy is already in effect.
Zhou Ganlu underscored Thailand’s enduring allure as a preferred destination for Chinese tourists. Prior to the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand warmly welcomed over 12 million Chinese visitors each year. Although post-pandemic figures have witnessed a decline, it is widely anticipated that the implementation of the visa-free policy will rekindle the tourism flame, with an estimated influx of over 10 million Chinese travelers expected.
In a significant move to further bolster this collaboration, China has committed to dispatch specialized tech-crime units to work in tandem with Thai authorities. Their primary mission will be to combat Chinese criminal syndicates operating along the Thai border with neighboring countries. Past joint operations have yielded substantial results, culminating in the apprehension of hundreds of Chinese suspects involved in transnational criminal activities.
The Royal Thai Police’s receipt of the Gold Great Wall Commemorative Award serves as a resounding affirmation of the unwavering commitment between Thailand and China in their concerted efforts to fortify security measures and curb the influence of criminal networks spanning international boundaries. This milestone moment augurs well for the future of law enforcement cooperation between these two nations, offering hope for a safer and more secure environment for all.
