In a recent statement on the project to curb the rising macaque population in Hua Hin, Ms. Busaba Choksuchat, the Deputy Mayor of Hua Hin City, voiced her support for the initiative. The project, which commenced on September 6, 2023, aims to sterilize 300 macaques within the Hua Hin District of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, allocating a budget of 580,000 baht from the Fiscal Year 2023 budget of Hua Hin Municipality.
The administrative center for this sterilization project is the area surrounding Wat Busayabanphot Temple. A dedicated team from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation has been diligently working to capture macaques within the vicinity. In addition, a group of skilled veterinarians has been brought together to perform the necessary sterilization procedures.

Since its commencement on September 6, approximately 100 macaques have already undergone sterilization. The initiative has proven to be successful in controlling the macaque population, which was becoming a concern for the local community. The reduction in the number of pregnant monkeys indicates that the project is moving in the right direction.
This endeavor, led by Hua Hin Municipality, is the primary strategy to prevent the spread of macaque populations and alleviate disruptions to the community. In the event that the project reaches its goals within the designated area, it may expand to encompass Khao Takiab as the next operational site.
The ongoing collaboration between Hua Hin Municipality and the National Park Department has proven instrumental in addressing the macaque population issue. This collaboration, which began in 2017, has now continued for six years, resulting in the successful sterilization of thousands of monkeys. The long-term objective is to ensure a sustainable reduction in the macaque population, ultimately eliminating any issues or disturbances for both residents and tourists in the area.
As the project moves forward, the community and local authorities remain committed to managing the macaque population effectively and in a manner that benefits all stakeholders.
