The idyllic day took a devastating turn when the plastic boat suddenly capsized, casting the children into the water. Tragically, one of the young souls, identified only as “A” for privacy considerations, found himself in the clutches of the deep waters and was unable to resurface. Despite valiant efforts from his friends to swim to safety, the unfortunate young boy slipped beneath the water’s surface, his life cruelly snatched away.
A fifth-grade student at Ban Nong Hin School, A’s promising future was tragically cut short by this unforeseen accident. Khon Kaen’s highway rescue officials, alongside the dedicated underwater operations team from the Khon Kaen Samakkhi Foundation, launched an exhaustive search in a race against time to recover the young boy’s body from the watery depths.
During the arduous six-hour search operation, the heartbroken mother of the victim, a 28-year-old woman named Wilai Huay Yai, clung to hope as she offered fervent prayers to the sacred spirits, beseeching for a swift resolution to the harrowing ordeal. As the search reached its poignant conclusion with the discovery of A’s lifeless form, a wave of anguish swept through his grieving family and relatives who had gathered in support.
Wilai, her voice laden with sorrow, revealed that her beloved child had set out to enjoy an afternoon by the water’s edge with his companions, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that awaited them. The fatal incident transpired as their modest vessel succumbed to the waters, plunging them into a fight for survival. A’s friends were fortunate enough to escape the clutches of the unforgiving pond, but the young boy himself was not as fortunate.

This tragedy echoes the unfortunate fate of a 5-year-old autistic boy who met his end in a school swimming pool. Discovered submerged at the pool’s bottom by a vigilant school bus driver, all efforts to save the child proved futile as he succumbed to his ordeal during the rushed journey to the hospital.
In a parallel heartbreaking event, the waters claimed the life of another young soul, a 9-year-old boy who ventured into the sea off Rayong, Thailand.
