Hua Hin, August 11, 2023 – In a vibrant and symbolic ceremony, Hua Hin’s esteemed dignitaries and residents congregated at the Market Village Hua Hin shopping center’s activity area in Prachuap Province to honor the auspicious occasion of Mother’s Day, scheduled for August 12, 2023. The event was further imbued with reverence as it coincided with the 91st Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King.
The solemn proceedings were overseen by Mr. Phon Krit Phuangvalaisin, the Hua Hin sheriff, who stood at the helm of the opening ceremony. The ceremony centered around paying homage and showing deep respect in front of the portraits of two revered figures: Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. This was a prelude to the forthcoming activities designed to honor their legacies.
The ceremony boasted a notable lineup of attendees, including Phrakhru Opas Kanchanatham, the Dean of Hua Hin Subdistrict, Region 2, who holds the esteemed position of Abbot at Wat Saphan Kee Lek. Also present was Mrs. Krisana Prae Saengchan, a cultural figure from Prachuap Province, Mr. Chanwit Unhasutthiyanon, the President of the Cultural Council of Prachuap Province, and Mrs. Lisa Ungheng, President of the Cultural Council of Hua Hin District, among others.
The event’s schedule was brimming with performances and exhibitions. A traditional parapet performance by Ban Raksil Thai captured the essence of Thai culture, while Ajarn Natthakit Akanitthada’s ASEAN Speech performance added an intellectual dimension. The night was illuminated by the lantern dance performances, a tribute to the Royal Thousand Monks, skillfully executed by students from Ban Takiap Municipal School.
Mr. Pol Krit, in his address, highlighted the profound significance of August 12, an annual commemoration of His Majesty the King’s birthday, as an opportunity for the nation and its citizens to express gratitude and recognition for the extraordinary contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. He emphasized the remarkable qualities and multifaceted expertise possessed by these revered figures, underlining their enduring impact on the Thai populace.
Mrs. Lisa echoed these sentiments, expressing the overarching purpose of the event as twofold: to honor the benevolence of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and to inspire the younger generation to channel their creativity and express appreciation. This call to creativity was evidenced in various activities, including a Driving Contest for lower secondary students, a Calligraphy contest for grades 4 to 6, and a Coloring contest for grades 1 to 6.
Adding a touch of cultural splendor, a captivating Thai fabric walking show took center stage, accompanied by an enlightening exhibition spotlighting the rich royal history and duties of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The event also showcased professional products from Hua Hin District, spanning from intricate owl dolls crafted from loincloth to vibrant tie-dyeing and herbal processing demonstrations, and innovative fabric product designs.
As the ceremony drew to a close, the resonance of devotion and unity hung in the air, serving as a testament to the unwavering reverence for their nation’s monarchs and a commitment to working harmoniously for the greater good of the kingdom.
