Preserving Thai Language and Cultural Heritage: Hua Hin District Hosts Workshop on Recitation and Composing

In a recent event held at the Hua Hin Golf Villa Hotel in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Mrs. Kritsana Prae Saengchan, Culture Presider of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, took the honor of inaugurating the project workshop titled “Recitation and Composing: Script for Aesthetics and Standardized Contest Management.” The event witnessed a gathering of esteemed personalities, including the Dean Abbot of Wat Busaya Banphot in Hua Hin District, Phrakhru Opaskanchanatham, the Dean of Hua Hin District 2, the Abbot of Wat Saphan Khi Lek, and Ms. Lisa Ungheng, the President of the Hua Hin District Cultural Council Committee.

Distinguished guests, including Mr. Natthakit Akanitthada, an Asean Councilor, and Mr. Amornthep Uammeepian, General Manager of Market Village Hua Hin, were also present at the ceremony. The workshop garnered participation from 56 individuals, comprising school administrators, high school students under the jurisdiction of Hua Hin District, and elementary schools under Hua Hin Municipality.

During the opening ceremony, Mrs. Krisana Phaesangchan emphasized the Hua Hin District Cultural Council’s commitment to preserving the richness of the Thai language, particularly in the realm of singing. The workshop aimed to cultivate the knowledge and skills of both teachers and students, empowering them to become custodians of arts, sciences, and cultural heritage in the field of recitating Sapa, ensuring its perpetual existence within the nation. Mrs. Phaesangchan expressed her hope that the trained teachers and students would utilize their newfound expertise to sustain, advance, and disseminate this invaluable tradition for the benefit of the wider public.

Highlighting the significance of the workshop, Ms. Lisa Ungheng, the President of the Hua Hin District Cultural Council Committee, stressed the importance of nurturing the potential of the Thai language among youth and Thai language teachers. The objective was to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to preserve the art, science, and national identity rooted in Thai culture. This concerted effort aimed to safeguard the Thai language as a cherished national heritage, while also encouraging students in educational institutions to maintain the language’s uniqueness in their vocabulary and pronunciation.

During the workshop, the teachers had the opportunity to hone their skills in composing Sapa poems, guided by renowned speakers who possess exceptional expertise and experience in the field of driving. These distinguished speakers hold a special distinction, being the only artists in Thailand who have received royal grace from His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great Borommanathbophit. Their royal appointment involves the honorable duty of driving the royal palace and contributing to the production of animated films dedicated to Phra Mahachanok, serving as exemplary figures for aspiring literary composers.

The workshop on recitation and composing the script for aesthetics and standardized competitions held on that day was seen as a fortunate opportunity for teachers and students alike to acquire knowledge from these esteemed speakers. The skills imparted will not only assist participants in their journey but also contribute to the preservation and progression of Sapa Recitation contests in the future.
