On May 24, 2023, the Maritime National Interest Protection Center in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province (Sornchol.Jor.Por.Khor.) received a distress call from the ship’s owner, Chok Udomsin 19, reporting an accident onboard their vessel. A crew member, later identified as Mr. Taja, a Burmese citizen, had suffered a severe head injury and was experiencing continuous bleeding after being struck by a hoist. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, authorities took immediate action to provide necessary support.
The ship was located approximately 28 nautical miles east of Klong Wan Pier and en route to Pae Pa Huay Pier in Ao Noi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Considering the considerable travel time and the potential risks to the patient’s health, assistance was sought from Srinakharinwirot University for prompt medical evacuation.
Deputy Director Capt. Ruangrit Saengkaew of Sorn Chon School, along with officers from Sorn Chon, province. Por Kor. 2, TCTC. 1, and five first-aid and evacuation officers from the Sawang Prachuap Thammasat Foundation, embarked on the Sor Chon Lor 2901 boat provided by the Prachuap Khiri Khan Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center. They proceeded to the designated location for the emergency.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., they reached the Chok Udomsin 19 boat, which was located around 14 nautical miles from Klong Wan Pier. The injured crew member was carefully transferred onto the Sor Chon 2901 boat, where immediate first aid was administered. Upon examination, it was determined that the patient had sustained a fractured skull, broken jaw, and multiple broken teeth. Despite the severity of the injuries, the crew member remained conscious.
Subsequently, on May 25, 2023, at 12:30 a.m., the Sor Chon Lor 2901 boat returned to the coastal fishery research and development center with the injured crew member. The patient was then transported to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital for further medical treatment.
The swift response and collaborative efforts of the involved authorities ensured that the injured crew member received the necessary medical attention without delay. This incident highlights the significance of well-coordinated emergency services in safeguarding the well-being of individuals in maritime accidents.
