Thailand’s Bid to Host Expo 2028 Phuket: Final Decision Expected in June, Says Prime Minister

Thailand’s bid to host Expo 2028 Phuket is set to be decided in June, according to a recent update provided by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha. The premier attended a meeting at the Government House to follow up on the bid, noting that discussions had taken place with all involved working committees. He emphasized the importance of the bid to Thailand’s future, highlighting the direct and indirect benefits the country would receive from hosting the expo.

Thailand has a chance of being granted hosting rights to the Specialized Expo 2028, and the premier noted that the country already has the support of many nations. However, he stressed the need to continue campaigning in order to be selected as the finalist. He urged everyone in Thailand to serve as good hosts leading up to the announcement of the host nation and to maintain peace and order in the period leading up to the general election.

The expo’s vision is focused on Thailand’s progression toward prosperity, security, and sustainability, in alignment with the Bio-Circular-Green concept for sustainable development. It also aims to link economies along Thailand’s eastern and western coasts, known as the “Thailand Riviera,” to help boost income for residents in the two areas.

Gen Prayut also acknowledged the traffic congestion problem in the Southern region, noting that the Ministry of Transport is continuously addressing the issue. However, some of the transportation initiatives face obstacles concerning the environment and local approval.

The prime minister urged everyone to look to future progress, stating that Thailand needs to adjust in line with global changes. With Thailand’s bid for Expo 2028 Phuket, the country has an opportunity to showcase its potential and position itself as a leading player in the global arena. The final decision on the host nation will be eagerly anticipated by all involved.
