Thailand Launches New Roadmap to Position Itself as Major Zero-Emission Vehicle Manufacturing Hub by 2030

In a bid to position Thailand as a key player in the electric vehicle market, the Thailand Automotive Institute (TAI) has rolled out a new roadmap called “Reshape the Future.” According to Anucha Burapachaisri, the government’s spokesperson, the plan outlines a series of strategies to steer Thailand’s auto industry towards the production of zero-emission cars (ZEVs).

Under the plan, Thailand is looking to produce 725,000 ZEVs out of the 2.4 million vehicles it aims to produce domestically by 2030. This ambitious goal is part of the 30@30 strategy, which seeks to make 30% of all Thai-made vehicles zero-emission by 2030. The move is seen as a significant step towards achieving the country’s objective of becoming a low-carbon society.

In 2023, Thailand is expected to produce 1.95 million automobiles, of which 900,000 will be sold domestically and 1.05 million will be exported. The government hopes that the new roadmap will help the country capture a significant share of the rapidly growing electric vehicle market, which is projected to be worth $803 billion by 2027.

With its skilled workforce, established automotive industry, and a favorable business environment, Thailand is well positioned to become a major hub for the production of ZEVs. The government is expected to offer a range of incentives and support to attract investments in the sector, including tax breaks, subsidies, and research and development grants.

If successful, Thailand’s ambitious plan could significantly boost the country’s economy and help it transition towards a more sustainable future. With the global demand for electric vehicles on the rise, the country’s auto industry could see a surge in demand for locally made ZEVs, leading to job creation and increased economic growth.
