Mrs. Eurangporn, from the Faculty of Community Development Department, Social Welfare Division, and Hua Hin Municipality officials took part in a walk to promote the smoke-free beach project on March 23, 2023.
The walk aimed to implement the smoke-free beach project under Section 17 of the Marine and Coastal Resources Management Promotion Act B.E. and raise public awareness about the importance of reducing litter, particularly cigarette butts on the beach, which can cause environmental problems. Cigarette butts left on the beach may cause future harm to marine life.
They were accompanied by Ms. Nonglak Phadungtos, a member of the Hua Hin City Council; Mr. Suebsakul Nuchiya, Director of the Marine and Coastal Resources Office 3; and the Prachuap Khiri Khan Marine Volunteer Network of the Provincial Marine and Coastal Resources Office.
The campaign urged people and tourists to smoke only in designated areas and to dispose of cigarette butts in containers or garbage bins rather than leaving them on the beach during the walk. The campaign also included information on how to administer first aid in the event of a jellyfish sting. Shop owners and the general public were told to work together to keep the beach clean.
