Anyone wishing to buy authentic Hom Mali rice from Thailand should look for certification branding on the packaging, according to the Ministry of Trade. This proposal was made in reaction to a report on Chinese-made bogus Hom Mali rice.
Consumers should seek for certified marking on packaging for quality assurance, according to the Department of Foreign Trade (DFT). Recent reports have cautioned about Chinese imitations of Hom Mali rice, in which producers offer rice from various sources that has been flavored.
According to DFT Director General Ronnarong Phoolpipat, three producers have already been discovered making imitation Hom Mali rice, and they have been shut down by Chinese officials.
According to Ronnarong, the damage to Thai rice’s reputation caused by these copycat goods has yet to be established.
Thailand’s trade promotion offices in China would perform more regular inspections of imitation products, as well as strive to promote awareness among Chinese buyers about Thailand’s quality assurance marking.
