The Cesium-137 radioactive isotope cylinder that went missing last week has allegedly been discovered after officials searched steel smelting operations in the Kabin Buri industrial region.
Authorities believe the radioactive isotope was sold as scrap and perhaps combined with other metals.
Prachinburi Governor Ronnarong Nakornjinda, together with officials from the Office of Atoms for Peace and other relevant authorities, investigated two steel smelting factories in the Kabin Buri industrial district and found the missing material.
Following a comprehensive assessment, the Office of Atoms for Peace determined that the compounds discovered at the steel smelting factory were actually Cesium-137.
Then, Prachinburi province officials announced the shutdown of the smelting factory and imposed a lockdown on the region, ordering all personnel to flee the site as a precaution.
