According to the Phuket province’s immigration commissioner, almost 7,600 Russian nationals have applied to extend their stay in the province.
Many Russian visitors receive permits to stay on the island for three months or no more than 90 days, according to Pol Col Thanet Sukchai, Chief of the Phuket Immigration Office. Others have chosen temporary residency in the regions of Rawai and Chalong to avoid the cold season in their own country.
Others, according to Pol Col Thanet, are looking to extend their stay in the capital area, followed by Thalang and Kathu.
Total arrivals data revealed an average of 300,000 international tourists every month, or 10,000 persons per day. The figure is expected to climb more as tourism rebounds after three lean epidemic years. By nationality, Russia has the most visits, followed by India, Kazakhstan, England, and Australia.
As the number of international tourists on the island grows, immigration officers have initiated a public service campaign to safeguard the safety of both foreign nationals and locals.
According to Thanawat Ongcharoen, Vice-President of the Phuket Tourism Association, the majority of Russian guests stay in hotels. Some rent properties, with the owners compelled by law to record their stay to immigration officials.
