Parents Grieve Daughter’s Death in Earthquake Tragedy

Chaimaiporn Homsantia, 29, of Thailand, was discovered dead after a major earthquake in Turkey.

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of more than 7.8, was one of the biggest to hit the area in a century and killed more than 17,000 people, including at least 12,873 in Turkey and 3,162 in Syria.

Chaimaiporn, from Chaiyaphum province, worked at a company in Georgia before relocating to Turkey when the Covid-19 situation eased. She was last heard from by her family over the weekend and was subsequently discovered under the wreckage of a fallen building in Iskenderun.

The Thai embassy has been collaborating with Turkish authorities in order to inform the victim’s family and send the deceased’s remains back to Thailand.

Suchart Chomklin, Labor Minister, has expressed his sympathies to Chaimaiporn’s family and directed the Social Security Office (SSO) to offer financial support.

Chaimaiporn was formerly worked as a masseuse at the Ramada by Wyndham Iskenderun Hotel and was protected under Section 33 for paid employees until retiring in 2015, according to SSO Secretary-General Boonsong Thapchaiyuth.
