This year, the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin is commemorating its 100th year of welcoming visitors with celebrations and discussions about its royal history and legacy.
On February 10, 2023, Jan Weisheit, General Manager of Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, welcomed Mr. Komkrit Charoenpatanasombat, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Province, together with Mr. Polkrit Phuangvalaisin, Hua Hin District Chief, Ms. Usa Phuangvalaisin, Red Cross Mayor, Hua Hin District, and Mr. Nopporn Wuthikul, Mayor of Hua Hin. Police Colonel Hongprom Wisit Chanachai, Superintendent of Police, Hua Hin, with many important visitors, including Mr. Friz Hamel’s family, who had used the hotel’s services for decades. Since its inception as the Hua Hin Railway Hotel, an art show has been arranged for visitors to enjoy the historical trip and relive the memories of the railway hotel together. They then cut the 100th anniversary cake together and distributed slices to all who had attended the celebration.
The Centara Grand Beach Resort & Houses Hua Hin, or “Train Hotel,” as it was known at the end of King Rama VI’s reign, is based on the beauty of the coastline and the pleasant environment of Hua Hin, which has inspired many royal families to purchase large tracts of land to construct summer villas. This is the first resort hotel in Siam, the most opulent nation in the area and similar to premier hotels in Europe at the time. The hotel’s architecture is colonial, with teak wood carvings, and it includes 14 rooms with complete amenities such as a restaurant, bar, gaming room, tennis court, and golf course. A vast elephant-shaped garden dubbed “Chokdee” is an architectural wonder that contributes to the hotel’s distinctiveness to the point that it has become well-known among Thai tourists and international visitors.
The Hua Hin Railway Hotel received substantial renovations at the beginning of 1986, with the Central Hotels and Resorts company at the time collaborating with Accor. The whole structure was refurbished and relaunched as “Sofitel Central Hua Hin” in December 1986. The name was changed to “Sofitel hotel Centara Grand Resorts and Villas” until June 2007, and then to “Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Hua Hin” till December 31, 2011.
