Thai Employees Gain from Thai-South Korean Labor Agreement

A labor cooperation agreement signed between Thailand and South Korea enables skilled Thai workers to find well-compensated employment in South Korea.

Under the agreement agreed last year, the Department of Employment will recruit 5,000 qualified Thai workers for the Korea Offshore and Shipbuilding Association (Koshipa) in 2023.

The agency claimed that this labor collaboration has recruited 1,275 skilled individuals, including 970 welders, 205 spray painters, and 100 electrical mechanics through recruitment firms contracted to this labor cooperation.

According to Director-General of the Department of Energy Pairoj Chotikasatien, the first group of 65 welders has already traveled to South Korea, while the second group of 49 workers has just lately followed. These individuals will be employed by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

These talented employees are promised a fair wage and fringe benefits, with pay beginning at 2,430 baht per day, plus overtime and a two-month bonus each year. They will work five days per week for eight hours per day.

Welders and electrical mechanics are in high demand in South Korea due to the importance of the South Korean shipyard in the international shipbuilding industry. The Department of Energy is currently encouraging qualified employees seeking possibilities or well-paying jobs to investigate this opportunity.

More employment information is available on the department’s website, www.doe.go.th, for those who are interested.
