On Monday, Thailand will commemorate the world-famous fighting art of Muay Thai (6 Feb). This year’s Muay Thai Day will be conducted to promote soft power assets that may propel the economy ahead.
The news was made yesterday at Government House, where a promotional event for Muay Thai Day, which is honored annually on February 6, was conducted.
Muay Thai Day commemorates King Sanphet the 8th of Ayutthaya, who is recognized as the father of the country’s ancient martial art.
To promote the event, Culture Minister Ittipol Khunpluem brought Muay Thai fighters and apprentices to visit Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha at the government residence.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister witnessed a Kita Muay Thai performance by pupils from Ban Nong Hin Schools in Khon Kaen, as well as a traditional Muay Thai exhibition by professional Muay Thai fighters from Thai Fight.
The Prime Minister congratulated everyone engaged in preserving the kingdom’s ancient martial art and urged all parties to continue preserving and passing on this soft power asset that may play a significant role in Thailand’s economic growth.
Another promotional event hosted at Government House was the Inventor’s Day celebration, which was also scheduled to take place from February 2nd to 6th at the BITEC Exhibition Center in Bangkok’s Bang Na district.
This event, organized by Thailand’s National Research Council, will honor the awarding of a patent for His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great’s Chaipattana low-speed surface aerator, which is recognized as the father of Thai innovations.
