The number of COVID-19 cases reported in Thailand decreased in the final week of 2022, but health professionals have advised New Year’s travelers to monitor their symptoms and self-isolate if infected.
During the week of December 25-31, 2022, Thai health officials reported 2,111 COVID-19-associated hospitalizations.
The number of fatalities decreased from 89 to 75 during the same week.
In a Facebook post, Dr. Thira Woratanarat of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University urged travelers and attendees of New Year’s celebrations to closely monitor any possible symptoms.
According to the physician, anyone exhibiting symptoms should immediately self-test for COVID-19 using an antigen test kit and self-isolate for 7–10 days if the test is positive. Three consecutive days of follow-up testing should be administered to symptomatic individuals to rule out false-negative results.
